#PublishingReinvented 93 - Google Ads for Books + Cover Tropes Anyone? + Your $50 Coupon Code Ending Soon.
What, Google Ads for books?
Google Ads For Books
We have been running Google ads for books since mid last year. They work well if you have a service related to your non fiction book.
We have consistently good results and will be expanding into testing with appropriate fiction titles later this month. If you’d like to be included please email me - lob@yourasms.com.
We will be testing books with a unique angle people are likely to be searching around, such as World War II in the Pacific.
These are paid tests with reduced management fees.
A Cover Trope, anyone?
Does your book cover include the tropes for your subgenre?
Including the tropes is signaling to readers what they will get. A Western, for instance, may have a ten gallon hat and guns, though not pointed at the reader because of Amazon rules.
A sci-fi novel might have a spaceship, if it’s set on space ships.
A Roman era novel will indicate that on the cover with a helmet, eagle or toga.
Readers look for quick ways to assess what they will get when they buy a book on Amazon. If you don’t signal your tropes your sales may suffer.
If your book is literary though, you also have a challenge in creating a unique and interesting cover. Anthony Doerr’s recent novel is an example of a modern style for literary novels. See below:
But the problem for literary authors is that only one in tens of thousands sells more that 5,000 copies.
So, what’s it to be? To trope or not trope? That is the question.
