#PublishingReinvented 73 - Also Boughts Changing! + Tik Tok Ads Anyone?
For years on Amazon book pages we’ve had strips of books across the pages called “Also Bought” and sometimes “Similar Books.” These generally had the same structure. You had to scroll right to see more books and the books aren’t categorised.
On our main Amazon.com buying account, I now see a strip called “Explore similar books” which allows readers to see select what type of similar books they would like to see by clicking buttons above the books. See what they look like above.
This is a big step forward. It allows Amazon to place books that are closer to what the reader likes, and are likely to sell, in front of readers. From this, it appears that:
Your categories and back-end keywords 100% need to be appropriate for your book.
Your book needs to sell, to sell more.
Amazon ads - in a strip called “Products Related to this item” with the word “Sponsored” in smaller text, are still straight below the “Explore…” strip above, so ads will still be seen, and perhaps more so, as more attention is drawn to these strips of books.
I suggest if your book is not selling on Amazon and you are not doing Amazon ads the chance of it being seen on Amazon will decline even further as the above option rolls out.
What About Tik Tok Ads?
We are developing a Tik Tok ads service for authors. This will be aimed at the genres most likely to be read by 12-30-year-olds. I suggest this is probably sci-fi, romance and fantasy, but I am sure there are other genres too.
The popular genres are already getting a lift from Book Tokers showing their fav books and boosting them.
If you’d like to be a test subject for Tik Tok ads and have an amazing cover and dozens of rave reviews are in the above popular genres, email me a link to your book: laurence@bgsadmin.com
