#PublishingReinvented 81 - Reader Growth Hacking Suggestion #2 VIP Targeting
Reader Growth Hacking
The concept of growth hacking is well understood in the business world. It can also be applied to increasing our reader base.
So what is the second growth hack suggestion? Facebook VIP Targeting.
Create an email list of VIPs who you want to see your book. These could be:
Prominent reviewers in your genre
Journalists you want to see your book
Editors or agents you want to see your book
Business leaders you want to see your book
People in organizations who might bulk buy your book
All or a combination of the above
A VIP list can take time to build. It requires research, but can be built with patience. I have a journalists list that took a few years to assemble, but is essential now.
Upload the VIP list as a Custom Audience in your Facebook ads manager.
To verify how small a list you can use right now I uploaded 30 three days ago and the ads started. However I recommend at least 50 email addresses to start.
You will need to Facebook Business Manager Account - details here - to upload a an email list as a Custom Audience in Facebook Ads Manager.
You can email the people after a few days to tell them something new about your book. Some of the people may have seen your ad on Facebook.
The news about you book to focus on is something genuinely unique about your book, a review, a video of you on our International Dublin Writers’ Festival site or some other news.
We will be opening up our festival for new author videos in January 2022. You can get free access to both our 2020 and 2021 festivals to see how authors do this at this link.
This is the second in a series of Reader Growth Hacking ideas that will appear in your inbox each Monday.

P.S.
Use a P.S. in some emails. They work. Here is our example: We also provide the above Facebook VIP targeting service to our clients.
