#PublishingReinvented 75 - How Much We Are Spending On Amazon Ads & What Does Our Rising CTR Mean?
Amazon Ads Work. But Not for Every Book.
As you can see we have spent over $187,000 on Amazon ads on one of our accounts. We also have a UK account and we manage dozens of author’s Amazon ads accounts.
And we are getting better at it.
The above chart shows our Click Through Rate (CTR) almost doubling from about .12% (1.2 clicks per 1,000 impressions) to .24% (2.4 clicks per thousand impressions.)
This is mainly due to improved targeting including:
Fewer keywords in ads, using a “Golden Keywords” strategy to list 20-30 highly likely keywords rather than hundreds of less likely keywords. It’s the Pareto Rule in action, again.
Using ASIN targets in ads making sure that we get the ads placed on similar book pages by tracking Also Boughts which readers buy when they look at a book on Amazon.
One thing is for sure, you get better at this as you go on. The relentless pressure of authors looking for a return on their investment means we have to keep testing new ways to improve our Amazon ads. The results show this.
What about Amazon ads for the holidays?
We see some books selling really well already and the CPC - Cost Per Click - is holding steady for the most successful books. What is increasingly clear is that - surprise surprise - the A9 Amazon ads algorithm favors books that are already selling.
That’s why we recommend a combined Facebook and Amazon ads program to ensure books move up the charts as the Amazon ads kick in.
