#PublishingReinvented 105 - Editing - The Hard Part + TikTok Reaches The Older Age Groups
Structural Editing Helps Us Build A Story
I could hate a good structural edit.
It points out all the boring bits, the unrealistic bits and the sections where you need to deepen the storytelling to show how the characters are feeling.
But I really love it. I swear!
I am going through the best structural edit for a novel that I’ve received in years. It’s detailed, painful and powerful. It knows the dark corners of my new novel’s faults.
And it requires a willingness to change.
It’s the type of edit you will face if you ever get published. I know there is a movement for fast publishing, but I realized I had to grow as a writer and that it was about time I wrestled more with the interior life of my characters.
And I’m glad I am doing this.
Whatever happens, this novel will be probably now be the best I’ve ever written. Number 14 too. I’m clearly a slow learner.
Are you aware of your weaknesses as a novelist?
Amazon reviews can help. They sometimes hit the nail on the head. They did for me, even though I have hundreds of 5 star reviews. One single star led me on this journey.
I will tell you more when the work is done.
I see TikTok is also for older people now. Read this report for how that’s going.
