PublishingReinvented #53 - Tracking Your Digital ID as a Book Owner. + How Readers Truly Benefit From NFTs.
As you may be aware we are launching our NFT book store later this month.
Our first store will include a membership area with member-only content, fourteen NFT Book Special Editions, with a varied mix of content, payment by PayPal to make it easy for all readers to buy, and a one-click wallet sign-up service to download your NFTs.
We are using a range of partner services to bring these low-cost NFT books to readers.
Prices will be $25 to $200 to own 1 of a limited edition of each NFT. And no high fees for readers or authors. The cost of getting listed on the site is zero for authors.
So, why aren’t we going for super high NFT prices?
Our goal is to make NFT special editions an affordable and practical item.
This is not about the NFT speculative bubble.
This is about real change for authors and a new option for readers who want more than a paperback or an ebook.
It’s also about reaching for the future. A future where the following happens:
Authors get a % each time their book is resold by the person who buys it. People who create a work deserve a share of the resale value. This is an acknowledged fact in the art market, yet book publishers & retailers refuse to even consider this for books.
Authors will get 90% of the net sales value of each special edition sold. Authors get the lion’s share. Authors can also set their price as high as they want, and still get the lion’s share.
For readers, your identity will be attached to your purchase. Our identity as readers is linked to us already through apps and cookies that track our every movement, so linking our NFT special editions to us through the blockchain is just another facet of our digital identity. This helps readers too, by reducing the likelihood of theft.
For the reader, the essential right to sell the ebook you bought online is a key benefit of our special edition NFTs. Try reselling the ebook you bought from other online book stores. You’ll discover you don’t even own those ebooks.
