#PublishingReinvented 357 - Amazon Ads Example + Audiobooks & AI + UK Agents & AI
The above is data from a high-performing U.S. Amazon ads campaign. We run a lot of Amazon ad campaigns. On one of our Amazon Ads Advantage accounts, we have 24,548 campaigns started.
The above chart is for a non-fiction book about AI. All of the best performing Amazon ad campaigns are either for non-fiction or children’s books.
Adult fiction doesn’t do well with Amazon ads. Every time we get someone writing fiction who wants to do Amazon ads, we always direct them towards Facebook ads. And every time we get someone who wants to run non-fiction ads, we direct them towards Amazon ads.
And the reason is because of what we see in the data: the non-fiction ads do well on Amazon on average and the best ones can be our best performers. Only children’s books can do as well with Amazon ads.
Audio books & AI
Eleven Labs, one of the biggest AI voice providers, is switching towards providing AI tools for big businesses. See one of their recent announcements here.
From what I’ve been reading, Elevenlabs and other AI tools are not capable yet of creating the multiple accents needed for multiple characters in a good fiction audio book. For now human-narrated audiobooks, where that narrator can create multiple accents for the different voices within a book, are still preferred for fiction.
This will not apply to non-fiction.
Agents reacting against AI submissions
It was reported in the UK BookSeller trade journal that UK literary agents are bringing forward new rules about AI submissions from writers. It seems writers are now submitting a lot of AI books to agents. The flood of AI is reaching all corners of the publishing industry. Read more here (subscription may be required.)
