At the recent Google I/O 2025 Conference, the company unveiled a bold vision of AI at the center of everything—transforming how we search, discover, and buy.
With Google now processing 480 trillion AI tokens monthly (a 50x increase from 2024), 400 million Gemini users, and over 1.5 billion monthly users engaging with AI Overviews, the shift is underway already.
The biggest takeaway for book marketers: AI is redefining visibility. Google's new AI Mode, now live for all U.S. users, rewrites how search works by summarizing and expanding queries. If your content isn't optimized for these AI-generated responses, you risk becoming invisible on Google.
Visual and agentic search are also reshaping the landscape. Google Lens use is up 65% year-over-year, and Search Live enables users to interact with Search via video. Meanwhile, Agent Mode can take users from inspiration to purchase without manual input—your book or brand needs to be what these AI agents recommend.
Content creation is evolving too. With tools like Imagen 4 and Veo 3, producing quality visual content is easier—but expectations are rising fast.
The message is clear: adapt now, or fall behind.
For most of us the above means making sure our websites have content related to our books and that we are linked to other both incoming and outgoing.
Advertising is also becoming more important to ensure we get seen. That suits Google, right?
