Can you learn things in Las Vegas?
100% yes.
The more I am removed from the jet lag after my trip, the more I realize how what I learnt in Las Vegas is going to change me.
How?
Improve my productivity. I met people producing thousands of words a day, with jobs and children to look after too. Impressive. What does that mean for the average person (me). It means finding wasted time slots in my day and putting writing into them. I won’t be able to do it every day, but I will watch my mindset, if it keeps telling I need an hour on YouTube every night to relax! I don’t and I am wasting a real opportunity to double my writing output. So the question to ask yourself is: where are the time slot in my day where I could add 30 minutes or 45 or more to writing?
AI is not going to write your book, but it can help us improve our writing craft. There were more people talking about AI than anything else at Author Nation in Vegas. It’s not going away, but the conversation is changing. This is not for anyone who thinks they can put in a prompt and a book will pop out. That is not where writers are going with AI. What can be done now is asking for feedback on a chapter, getting ideas back for how to improve the pace, add drama or write in a more literary style. That means we decide from the suggestions AI provides which improvement we will include in that chapter. AI is becoming an editorial assistant, allowing us to change voice, tense, style and drama and decide, as the writer, which way we want the book to go. Whatever you think of this development, is is being embraced whole heartedly by thousands of writers. I will be helping writers get AI to work for them as an assistant.
