#PublishingReinvented 176: Amazon Ads & Facebook Working Together! + Get A Better Author Bio!
Under a new agreement details here, Meta will link Facebook and Instagram accounts to users’ Amazon accounts to enable one-click buying from adverts within Meta’s apps, rather than sending them to Amazon’s home page.
This is big news. No more sending people to Amazon where they can easily buy a different book because of the ads on every Amazon page.
This will make it far easier to buy lots of stuff from Amazon, while generating a potential gusher of new ad money for Meta and making it more of a natural shopping destination, an obsession of Zuckerberg’s for years.
So how exactly will the new ads work? Instead of a click sending customers to Amazon, where they must navigate rival products and reviews, users will be fed a pared-down screen with a “Buy with Amazon” button that allows them to do the entire transaction right there. Fewer taps mean more completed sales, more completed sales mean more effective ads, which means more advertising dollars for Meta.
The companies have also agreed to share data for better ad targeting. Once someone agrees to link their Meta and Amazon accounts — they must opt in — the latter hands over data including whether the person is a Prime member, the value of products they are interested in and limited personal information related to fraud detection.
The alliance will launch first in America. Watch this space. Facebook ads are a key part of what BooksGoSocial does for authors. Better Facebook ads is great news for authors.
